Release notes

What's new in Scroogle Mail

Every release, in plain language: what we added, what we made better and what we fixed. Web and mobile updates ship together; the desktop apps and Scroogle Bridge follow their own schedules.

v2.8.1 - 12 June 2026

Web & mobile

Improved

  • Snoozed messages now show their wake-up time in the message list, not just inside the thread.
  • Reduced initial load time of the web app by about 15% by deferring the contacts index.

Fixed

  • Calendar invites from Outlook with non-standard timezones now parse correctly instead of landing an hour off.
  • On iOS, the badge count no longer includes messages you had already read on another device.
  • Fixed a rare case where an alias created and deleted in the same session could still accept one message.

Desktop v1.9.0 - 4 June 2026

Desktop

New

  • Full offline mode: read, search and draft replies without a connection; everything syncs when you are back online.
  • Quick switcher (Ctrl/Cmd+K) to jump between folders, labels and recent threads.

Improved

  • The Linux build now follows the system dark/light preference on GNOME and KDE.

Fixed

  • Dragging more than 20 attachments into a draft no longer freezes the compose window on Windows.

v2.8.0 - 28 May 2026

Web & mobile

New

  • Snooze an email until later - this evening, tomorrow morning, next week, or a time you pick. Snoozed mail returns to the top of your inbox, unread.
  • Create an alias straight from compose: type a new alias in the From field and we will offer to create it on the spot.

Improved

  • The undo-send window is now configurable from 5 up to 30 seconds (Settings > Compose).
  • Tracker blocking now shows which pixel was blocked and who operates it, per message.

Fixed

  • Replying to a message in a folder you had just renamed no longer files the reply under the old name.

Scroogle Bridge v3.4.0 - 19 May 2026

Bridge

New

  • Bridge can now store its credentials in the system keychain (macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, libsecret on Linux) instead of its own encrypted file.

Improved

  • IMAP IDLE connections reconnect more quickly after a laptop wakes from sleep - new mail typically appears within seconds rather than on the next poll.
  • Initial sync of very large mailboxes (over 50,000 messages) uses roughly half the memory it did in v3.3.

Fixed

  • Thunderbird no longer shows duplicate sent messages when "Place a copy in Sent" is enabled - Bridge now deduplicates against the copy we file automatically.

v2.7.2 - 7 May 2026

Web & mobile

Fixed

  • Search results now include messages in Spam when you explicitly search in:spam (a regression from v2.7.0).
  • Fixed a layout jump when opening long threads with inline images on Android.
  • Signatures containing tables no longer lose their borders when the recipient reads in plain-text mode.

Desktop v1.8.3 - 29 April 2026

Desktop

Improved

  • Faster cold start on macOS - the app window now appears before the mailbox index finishes loading.

Fixed

  • Notification clicks now open the right thread when more than one account is signed in.
  • Fixed a crash on Windows when printing a message that contained an SVG attachment preview.

v2.7.0 - 16 April 2026

Web & mobile

New

  • Unified inbox: see mail for all your addresses and aliases in one stream, with a coloured dot per address. Off by default; turn it on in Settings > Inbox.
  • Schedule send: write now, deliver at 9am Monday. Scheduled mail waits encrypted on your account until send time.

Improved

  • Faster search indexing on large mailboxes - a 30 GB mailbox now indexes in under 10 minutes on first sign-in, down from around 40.
  • Custom swipe actions on mobile: choose what left and right swipes do (archive, snooze, bin, mark read).

Fixed

  • Drafts autosaved mid-flight no longer occasionally duplicate when you reconnect on a train wifi.

v2.6.4 - 31 March 2026

Web & mobile

Improved

  • WebAuthn hardware keys can now be given labels ("YubiKey desk", "backup key in drawer") so you know which one you are being asked for.

Fixed

  • HEIC attachments from iPhones now show an inline preview instead of a generic file icon.
  • Fixed encoding of some accented characters in folder names created via IMAP through Bridge.
  • The contact picker no longer suggests addresses you have only ever received spam from.

Desktop v1.8.0 - 18 March 2026

Desktop

New

  • System tray / menu bar mode: close the window and keep receiving notifications, with unread count in the tray icon.
  • Attachment browser: see every attachment in a folder in one grid, sorted by size or date.

Improved

  • Keyboard shortcuts now match the web app throughout, and there is a printable cheat sheet under Help.

v2.6.0 - 25 February 2026

Web & mobile

New

  • Automatic PGP key discovery via WKD: when you email someone whose provider publishes their key, we encrypt to it without either of you doing anything.
  • Contact groups: send to "Book club" instead of picking nine people every time.

Improved

  • The Gmail and Outlook importers now bring over folder colours and star states, not just the messages.
  • Better handling of very long threads (200+ messages) - older messages collapse into pages instead of one endless scroll.

Fixed

  • Fixed a bug where the recovery phrase reminder banner reappeared after you had already confirmed your phrase.

v2.5.5 - 4 February 2026

Web & mobile

Fixed

  • Fixed slow message-list scrolling on older Android devices (regression introduced in v2.5.3).
  • Vacation auto-replies now respect the end date in your own timezone rather than UTC.
  • Exported .eml files now keep their original received date instead of the export date.

Desktop v1.7.2 - 21 January 2026

Desktop

Improved

  • Update downloads are now delta patches - typical updates are a few megabytes instead of the full installer.

Fixed

  • Fixed a hang on quit when a large attachment upload was still in progress.

v2.5.0 - 14 January 2026

Web & mobile

New

  • Redesigned settings, grouped by what you are trying to do rather than by internal feature names.
  • Storage breakdown: see exactly which folders and attachments are using your quota, and clear space in two clicks.

Improved

  • Spam handling on newly created aliases - mail to a brand-new alias from a sender you have never contacted gets a gentler, clearly-marked quarantine rather than silent binning.

Fixed

  • Fixed a case where marking a whole folder as read did not sync to mobile until the next app launch.
