Billing questions

The money questions, answered straight

Does my subscription renew automatically?
Yes, so your mailbox never lapses by accident. Monthly plans renew each month; yearly plans renew every 12 months, and we email you a reminder before a yearly renewal is taken - no quiet price rises smuggled through. You can switch off auto-renewal in Settings > Billing at any time and your plan will simply end at the close of the period you've paid for.
How do I cancel?
In Settings > Billing, two clicks, done. No phone call, no chat queue, no "wait, before you go" retention script. You keep full access until the end of the period you've already paid for. If you're within your first 30 days, ask for the money-back guarantee instead and we'll refund the lot. You also have a 14-day cooling-off right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
What happens to my mail if I cancel?
Nothing dramatic, and nothing sneaky. When your subscription lapses you get a 30-day grace period in which your mailbox is receive-only: incoming mail is still accepted and you can sign in and read it, but sending is paused. From day 31 the mailbox goes read-only - incoming mail stops, but you can still sign in and export everything (messages, contacts and calendar) with the built-in export tool until day 120. After 120 days the encrypted data is permanently deleted from both of our Swiss datacentres. Before that happens we send two warning emails to your recovery address, and resubscribing at any point before deletion restores full service with everything intact. Your address is not recycled to anyone else, so nobody can impersonate you later.
Why is there no free plan?
Because free email is never free - somebody pays, and if it isn't you, it's an advertiser buying access to your inbox. Storage, Swiss datacentres, audits and 14 salaries cost real money, and we'd rather take £2.99 a month from you than a penny from ad-tech. It keeps our incentives pointed at exactly one group of people: our customers. If you try us and disagree, the 30-day guarantee means it's cost you nothing.
What payment methods do you take?
All major credit and debit cards, PayPal and Apple Pay. We don't take cryptocurrency yet - it's on the roadmap, and we'd rather do it properly than bolt it on badly. Card details are handled by our payment processor; we never see or store your full card number.
Do you do VAT invoices?
Yes. Every payment generates a proper VAT invoice showing VAT at 20% and our registration number (GB 427 8811 36), available to download from Settings > Billing the moment you're charged. If you're a business, you can add your company name, address and VAT number so the invoices are ready for your accountant without any back-and-forth.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes, whenever you like. Upgrades take effect immediately and we credit the unused portion of your current plan against the new price, pro rata. Downgrades apply from your next renewal so you never lose time you've paid for. One honest caveat: if you downgrade with more mail than the smaller plan's storage allows, you'll need to tidy up or export before the change completes - we won't delete anything for you.
Is there a discount for students or charities?
Yes - 30% off any plan for students and registered charities. Write to billing@scrooglemail.com from your account with proof (a student ID or enrolment letter, or your charity registration number) and we'll apply the discount to your subscription. It stays on for as long as you remain eligible.

Three minutes to set up. Thirty days to change your mind.

Pick a plan, pick your address, and let the importer fetch your old mail while you put the kettle on. If it's not for you, the guarantee has you covered.
